Freelance Design Consultation

stillhungry Web Experience

An entry point for learning more about the band stillhungry and their sophomore album release.

PROJECT GOAL

Provide a mobile and desktop-friendly website for users to learn more about the band stillhungry, and experience the album’s debut single through a browser-based game.

ROLE

My role was designer for the band’s home website and consulted on the UX of the browser-based game.

Researching for artists

When a band has a desired audience, it’s important to understand who they are and how to best reach them during an album release. Personas here were crafted based on an analysis of still hungry’s social media profiles and their Spotify listenership. The primary audiences were Generation Z women and Generation Y men, whose profiles revealed much about their taste musically and socially.

Mockups for an Album

For each iteration of the site’s design, the band member served as stakeholders, providing feedback and requirements of their needs for the album’s release. They needed the music to be foremost easy to find, along with a page that showcased upcoming tour dates.

Crafting a Branded Design

The band had a clear vision for the look and feel of their album, and it was largely a moody, retro feeling. They wanted anyone who experience them and their album to feel welcome into a personal space, and use any imagery as a hint for the album’s meaning.

The brand palette ultimately came into accessible browns and yellows, with the appropriate amount of contrast that pulled from the album’s cover art.

Creating an interactive album experience.

Unique to the album launch was an interactive online game for fans to “unlock” the first single track for the album. I provided guidance on how to insert keyboard controls for accessibility, vibrancy for any iconography, and consistent instructions for screen readers.
